Yellowstone General Stores now feature historically themed, Pendleton wool blankets

BOZEMAN, M.T. (August 13, 2007) ? Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts at Yellowstone National Park will now carry exclusive, customized Pendleton wool blankets at Yellowstone General Stores. Pendleton blankets originated in 1896 as Indian trade blankets. In 1916 the company created its first National Park blanket, the same year the National Park Service was created.

In mid-July of this year, 350 Pendleton blankets became available for the first time to purchase at various locations within Yellowstone National Park. These blankets are the first of a long line which will be introduced on an annual basis and represent the wonders of the national park.

Since they were created in the early 1900s, Pendleton National Park blankets have received rave reviews and have become collector items. The blankets embody the history of national parks with their strong, simple designs. This year’s blanket combines the history of Native Americans, bison and Yellowstone National Park.

“This is a very exciting piece of retail we’re happy to have featured in our general stores at Yellowstone,” stated Derek Zwickey, regional general manager of Delaware North Parks and Resorts at Yellowstone. “These blankets are symbols of the beautiful national parks we operate in and we’re proud to provide them for our customers.”

Already a third of the blankets have sold in Yellowstone’s General Stores. At $225 per blanket, they are a link to the park’s rich history. Next year’s Yellowstone National Park Pendleton blanket will honor the heritage of Native Americans, Yellowstone National Park and the Grizzly Bear. These blankets are available through Delaware North Parks and Resorts at Yellowstone National Park while supplies last.

About Pendleton
Pendleton is one of a handful of woolen mills remaining in America today that still designs and weaves its own fabric. The company wove its first Indian Trade blanket, now a collection of signature products for which Pendleton has built a national reputation, just after the turn of the century (1909). It expanded its home furnishings offerings in 1998. Response to the expansion into bed blankets and bed fashions has taken Pendleton products beyond specialty stores and into mainstream home furnishing stores and catalogs
